Krista Varantola
Chair of the programme committee
Krista Varantola is former Rector and Chancellor of the University of Tampere. She chaired the Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK for nine years and serves as an expert on the current Board. She is Vice Chair of ALLEA and was member of the drafting group that produced the revised edition of the ALLEA Code of Conduct for Research Integrity.
Hjördis Czesnick
German Research Ombudsman Office
Dr Hjördis Czesnick is the Head of Office of the German Research Ombudsman. With her team, and in close collaboration with the Research Ombudsman committee, she advises researchers in matters of research integrity. Since 2019, Dr. Czesnick is a Co-Vice Chair of ENRIO. Dr. Czesnick studied biology at the Humboldt University Berlin, focusing on microbiology and plant sciences. She then explored the production of biofuels from algae during a research stay at the University of Cambridge, UK. After returning to Germany, she pursued her PhD in plant genetics at the University of Potsdam.
Vidar Enebakk
Norwegian National Research Ethics Committees
Vidar Enebakk is Director at the National Research Ethics Committee for Social Sciences and Humanities (NESH) since 2014. He has a PhD in science studies from 2005, and he has worked as postdoc and researcher in history of science at the University of Oslo. In 2012 he became senior curator at the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology. He has co-edited two books on research ethics, and from 2016 to 2018 he was also editor of the Norwegian academic journal Nytt Norsk Tidsskrift.
Joel Eyer
Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale
Joel Eyer is a Research Director at Inserm (Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale) working in neuroscience and nanomedicine. He has worked at the European Commission as an Expert or Vice-Chair for scientific or ethics evaluations since 2005. Since 2018 he has acted as Scientific Advisor at OFIS (Office Français de l’Intégrité Scientifique) and been involved in several European initiatives and projects on research integrity (ETINED, ENRIO, MLE).
Nicole Föger
Austrian Agency for Research Integrity
Dr Nicole Föger holds a PhD degree in biochemistry and is the Managing Director of the Austrian Agency for Research Integrity. She was the Chair of ENRIO from 2012 until 2018, and she has been involved in several European initiatives and EU-projects on research integrity (ENERI, VIRTUE and SOPs4RI). Since May 2018 she is member of the Governing Board of the World Conference on Research Integrity Foundation (WCRIF).
Maura Hiney
Health Research Board Ireland
Dr Maura Hiney is a qualified nurse, has a PhD in Molecular Epizootology and Diagnostics, and has worked as both a researcher and Director of Research Support Services at National University of Ireland Galway (NUI Galway). Maura is currently Head of Post-Award and Evaluation at the Health Research Board Ireland. She has been influential in raising awareness of RI issues in Ireland since 2007. She was deeply involved in establishing the National Forum of key stakeholders in universities, funding agencies and training bodies, and in developing a national RI policy framework for broad adoption. Internationally, Maura is co-chair of ENRIO and chaired the Science Europe Working Group on RI.
Panagiotis Kavouras
EARTHnet
Panagiotis Kavouras is a physicist by degree, with a PhD in Materials Science and Technology. His current research interests are mechanical properties of solids and research on Research Integrity. He works at the National Technical University of Athens, School of Chemical Engineering and is one of the contact persons of EARTHnet, the Greek network Research Ethics and Research Integrity. He is participating in five "Science with and for Society" projects and he is the country correspondent for Greece in the SUPER MoRRI project.
Riitta L. Keiski
Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK
Riitta L. Keiski is Professor in Mass and Heat Transfer, Docent in Chemical Process Engineering, especially in Heterogeneous Catalysis and Environmental Engineering, and the Dean of the Faculty of Technology at the University of Oulu. She is also the Chair of the Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK. She holds Doctor Honoris Causa title at three international and national universities. She has served as a member in the boards of several research institutes and funding organizations, e.g. the Academy of Finland.
Iina Kohonen
Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK
Dr. Iina Kohonen is a Senior Adviser at the Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK. She advises researchers in matters of research integrity and handles cases of research misconduct. Her responsibilities also include training and coordinating the network of Research Integrity Advisers and coordinating the process of ethical review in human sciences in Finland. Previously she has worked as a Science Secretary at the Council of Finnish Academies and as a Project Manager of the Responsible Research project for TENK and the Committee for Public Information in Finland. She has earned her master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology and has a PhD in Photography.
Erika Löfström
Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK
Dr Erika Löfström is Professor of Education at the University of Helsinki, the Chair of the non-medical ethics review board at the University of Helsinki, and the Vice-Chair of the Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK. She is also a board member of the Academy of Finland. She teaches research ethics/integrity to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students. Her research areas include research ethics and integrity and related learning and supervision processes. Löfström is involved in the H2020-funded project VIRT²UE Virtue based Ethics and Integrity of Research: Train-the-Trainer programme for upholding principles and practices of the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (2018-2021), and the recently completed project ENERI European Network of Research Ethics and Research Integrity (2016-2019).
Helga Nolte
Geschäftsstelle für Ombudsangelegenheiten der Universität Hamburg
Helga Nolte is a mediator, coach and advisor in questions of good scientific practice.
Since 2005, she has worked in various positions in the field of the German ombudsman system, presently as the head of the Ombudsoffice of the University of Hamburg. Since 2010 she has been working as a trainer and teacher for workshops and lectures on Good Scientific Practice and Research Integrity. She has been a member of ENRIO since 2010, as well as member of the team “ScientificIntegrity” (www.scientificintegrity.de) since 2011.
Riitta Salmelin
Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK
Riitta Salmelin is Professor of Imaging Neuroscience at Aalto University, Finland. Her primary field is cognitive neuroscience, with original training up to PhD in physics. She is a member of the Aalto University Research Ethics Committee, Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK and Nordic Committee on Bioethics (NCBio).
Sanna-Kaisa Spoof
Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK
Dr. Sanna-Kaisa Spoof is the Secretary General for Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK (2010–). She received her PhD in European Ethnology in University of Helsinki. Her previous working experience includes positions as Faculty Head of Research Administration (Faculty of Arts, University of Helsinki), Head of Department of Continuing Education (Sibelius Academy), Secretary General (Lahti University Consortium) and Research Associate (University of Helsinki, Department of Cultural Studies). She is the Chair of ENRIO. She has been both a project manager and a member or chair of steering groups in various EU-funded education end regional projects. She is also a member of the Pan-European Platform on Ethics, Transparency and Integrity in Education (ETINED).
Kalle Videnoja
Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK
Kalle Videnoja works as an international coordinator at the Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK and as the secretary for ENRIO. Kalle has master’s degree in ethics and social philosophy and he is working on his PhD in legal theory. Previously, Kalle has worked as a philosophy lecturer at Aalto University, as a science secretary in the Council of Finnish Academies, and as an advisor in NGOs’.
Anni Sairio
Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK
Dr Anni Sairio is the Conference Secretary of the ENRIO 2020 Congress on Research Integrity Practice. She holds a PhD and a Docentship in English Philology from the University of Helsinki. She has worked as the Senior Coordinator of the Responsible Research project for the Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK and the Committee for Public Information in Finland (2018–2020).
