Venue and Practicalities

The congress begins on 5 October 2020 with an evening reception hosted by the Finnish Minister of Science and Culture. The reception takes place at the House of the Estates in Helsinki, in the district of Kruununhaka.

The two full days of programme take place on 6-7 October 2020 in Aalto University, Espoo. Our conference venue is Dipoli, the main building of Aalto University and one of the most significant buildings in modern Finnish architecture.

The neighbouring cities of Espoo and Helsinki are safe and modern seaside cities. Helsinki is the capital of Finland, a compact and walkable city by the Baltic Sea. Espoo is home to Aalto University, a multidisciplinary university that specialises in science, art, technology, and business.

In early October, the weather in southern Finland is crisp and cool and the autumn foliage is beautiful. Average daytime temperatures range from 5°C to 10°C, so pack warm clothes for the outdoors and prepare for occasional rain.

Travel information

For most travellers it is easiest to get to Finland by plane. The international Helsinki-Vantaa airport is the main airport in the capital city area.

Getting from Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Helsinki and Espoo

A direct train runs from the airport to the Central Railway Station of Helsinki. Tickets can be purchased from a ticket machine at the airport near the platform. A single ticket costs approximately 4,50€ (2019 price). Buy a ticket that is valid for zones ABC.

There is no direct public transportation from the airport to Aalto University, Espoo. Take the train to the Central Railway Station in Helsinki, switch at the railway station to the metro for Tapiola or Matinkylä, and get off on the Aalto University station. The train ticket from the airport is also valid for the metro journey.

Getting from the centre of Helsinki to Aalto University

The distance between the centre of Helsinki and the campus area of Aalto University is about 10 kilometers. A metro line covers that distance in approximately 10 minutes. Choose a ticket that is valid for zones AB.
